Malahat Sultan

Malahat Sultan was born on October 22, 1978, in the Qakh district of the Republic of Azerbaijan. She graduated from school with a gold medal and completed her medical degree at the Faculty of General Medicine of the Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) with distinction. She undertook a clinical residency at the Department of Radiation Diagnostics and Therapy at AMU. In 2011, she was appointed as an Associate Professor of the department, and in 2020, she was promoted to Full Professor. Since December 1, 2017, she has served as the Head of the Department of Radiation Diagnostics and Therapy. She defended her PhD thesis in Medical Sciences in 2005 and her Doctor of Sciences dissertation in 2018. Professor Sultan is a radiologist at the AMU Teaching Surgical Clinic. From 2021 to 2024, she served as the Head of the Department of Residency and Postgraduate Education at AMU. She currently holds the position of Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at the Azerbaijan Medical University.

Her academic titles and degrees were formally conferred by the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan: the title of Associate Professor in 2012, the title of Full Professor in 2023, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine (PhD) in 2006, and the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences (ScD) in 2019.

She has demonstrated herself as a disciplined employee who performs assigned tasks with precision and approaches her professional duties with a strong sense of responsibility. As an experienced educator, researcher, administrator, and radiologist, she has earned the respect and appreciation of both the clinic and department staff, as well as patients. As Head of the Department, she oversees the coordination, and implementation of scientific, pedagogical, and clinical activities within the team. She is deeply engaged with students and residents and continuously works diligently to improve herself. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the Second Karabakh War, she honorably fulfilled her professional duties as a dedicated doctor.

She is one of the founding members and the scientific secretary of the Azerbaijan Society of Radiology. She has repeatedly delivered presentations at international conferences both abroad and within the country, including regional events, in her field of specialization. Professor Sultan is a member of the European Society of Radiology, the Russian Society of Radiologists and Radiographers, and the American Society of Cardiothoracic Radiology.

From 2019 to 2023, she was a member of the Scientific Medical Council of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and currently serves as a member of the Commission for the Admission to Practice of Medical and Pharmaceutical Professionals who have received higher or specialized secondary education and postgraduate training abroad, under the same ministry. Between 2018 and 2020, she was a member of the Dissertation Council under the National Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

She serves as the Scientific Secretary of the Expert Council on Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Professor Sultan is also a member of the Problem Commission on Internal Medicine at the Azerbaijan Medical University, the Council of the Faculty of General Medicine II, and the AMU’s Supreme Academic Council.

She is the author of 164 scientific publications, including Chief Editor of the National Guidelines on Radiological Diagnostics, as well as one textbook, two teaching manuals, one monograph, two methodological guides (one in English), and two academic curricula. Under her scientific supervision, two doctoral dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine have been approved by the Supreme Attestation Commission.
