Rashad Sholan

Rashad Sholan was born on June 27, 1980 in Imishli, Azerbaijan SSR, in an enlightened family. In 1987-1993 he studied at the secondary school No. 264 in Baku, and in 1993 he was admitted to the Technical-Humanitarian Lyceum named after Habibbay Mahmudbayov .
He graduated in 1997, in the same year he entered the 1-st medical faculty of the Azerbaijan Medical University. In 2000, he conducted the first research on "Study of urinary microflora in patients with chronic pyelonephritis and glomerulonephritis" and his research was published in the congress materials of the Student Scientific Society (SSS).
In 2002, he was elected chairman of the Student Scientific Society of the 1-st medical faculty. In 2003, the student's research paper on "The use of mini-incision during the operation of Ivanissevich" was nominated for the best student research paper of the year.
He graduated with an honors diploma from Azerbaijan Medical University in 2003. In the same year he was admitted to the residency in urology at the "Urology" department of the Ege University of the Republic of Turkey.
In 2003-2009 he was an resident at the Department of Urology of the Ege University. During these years, he took experience in the all fields of urological surgery - urooncology, endourology, andrology, functional urology, laparoscopic urology. In the same years, a number of scientific articles co-authored by him and the staff of the department were published in Turkey, the United States, Brazil, Japan and other countries.
Rashad Sholan carried out 802 operations during his residentship at Ege University. In 2008-2009 he headed the representation of foreign doctors and students of the Ege University. In 2009, he defended his dissertation on "The effect of testosterone on pelvic floor muscles and urodynamic parameters in stress-type incontinence” and later this dissertation work was awarded the prize of the Turkish Continence Society.
Rashad Sholan completed his education in Turkey in 2009 as an urologist and returned to Azerbaijan. He was one of the founders of the laparoscopic urology in Azerbaijan. He started working as a urologist at the Central Hospital of Oil-Workers , and since 2010 he has managed to include urooncological, reconstructive and andrological operations in the hospital's urological practice.
In 2010, he was the official representative of the International Young Urologists Association in Azerbaijan.
In 2011, he performed the first laparoscopic nephrectomy in Azerbaijan. In 2011, he completed clinical observership in robotic urological surgery and kidney transplantation at Yonsei University, South Korea.
In 2012, he presented the first series of laparoscopic urology in Azerbaijan at the 30th International Congress of Endourologists. In the same year he successfully completed the courses of application of experimental laparoscopic surgery in France (University of Strasbourg-IRCAD). Also, the dissertation he completed at Ege University was nostrificated by the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and received the degree of "Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine".
Then, in 2014, he successfully completed microsurgery courses in the Republic of Turkey. In 2014, he also worked as a urologist at the Republican Diagnostic Center and was an official consultant for that hospital.
In 2015, he became a research member of the American Urological Association. In 2017, he founded the department of "Kidney Diseases and Transplantology" of the Republican Diagnostic Center and became the head of the department, from that period, he began to perform kidney transplantation operations both on the state-based and on a paid basis.
In 2018, he completed a kidney transplant program at Yonsei University, Asia's largest kidney transplant center. In 2019, under his leadership, the Department of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation received the US JCI certificate, an international quality certificate.
In 2019-2020, he headed the "Urology" department of the Central Oilworker's Hospital. In 2019, at his suggestion, the "Association of Specialists in Kidney Transplantation " was established and registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He was elected a Chairman of the Executive Board of this organization.
In 2019, he was appointed Chief Specialist for Kidney Transplantation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since 2021, he is an Organ Transplant Specialist-Expert of the Ministry of Health.
In 2018, the Laboratory of Immunophysiology and Experimental Transplantation was established at the Institute of Physiology named after A. Garayev, and by the decision of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Rashad Sholan was appointed head of this laboratory.
Rashad Sholan is the author of more than 90 scientific works. He has completed his doctoral dissertation (doctor of science) on the diagnosis, pathogenesis and pathophysiology of interstitial cystitis. Its experimental models of interstitial cystitis have been adopted at prestigious congresses such as ESSIC 2019 and SUFU 2020.
In April 2022, Rashad Sholan defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Modelling Of The Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome, Investigation Of The Multifactorial Factors In Etiopathogenesis And Study The Role Of Diagnostic Biomarkers". By the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 07.10.2022, Rashad Sholan was awarded the academic degree of "Doctor of Medical Sciences" (in two specialties: urology and pathological physiology).
By the decision of the Grand Academic Council of the "Namangan State University" (No. 6, 31.01.2023), Rashad Sholan was awarded the academic title of "Honorary Professor".
On June 8, 2023, by the decision of the Grand Academic Council of the "Central Asian Medical University" (protocol No. 8), Rashad Sholan was awarded the academic title of "Honorary Professor" of this university.
