Vagif Bilas oglu Shadlinski

Vagif Bilas oglu Shadlinski was born on January 24, 1940, in Vedi district, which is the original land of Azerbaijan and is now in the territory of Armenia. He comes from a family of intellectuals. His family known for its educational and patriotic traditions. In 1948-1950, numerous Azerbaijani families were deported from their ancestral home by the Armenian dashnaks. V.B. Shadlinski also settled with his family members in the village of Leninkend, Shamkir region of Azerbaijan. Since 1959, V. B. Shadlinski served in the army and rose to the position of squad commander. In 1963-1968, he received higher education at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute and graduated with honors. Since 1966, while a student, he worked as chairman of the student union committee. In 1967, he was elected a member of the bureau of the party committee of the institute and the committee of the Republican Trade Union of Medical Workers, as well as a representative at the X Congress of the All-Union Trade Union of Workers.

Since 1970, he worked as a senior laboratory assistant, assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor, and professor at the Department of Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology of the Azerbaijan Medical University.

In 1995–2020 he worked as the head of that department, and he currently works as a consultant professor.

In 1988–1991 V.B.Shadlinski was the deputy dean of the General Medicine Faculty of Azerbaijan Medical University.

In 1992-1994 he was the chairman of the Trade Union Committee at that University.

In 1994–1995 professor V.B.Shadlinski was vice-rector for general affairs and in 1996–200 he was vice-rector for educational affairs.

In 1982 he defended his candidate thesis and was awarded the scientific degree of candidate of medical sciences. During the years of fruitful pedagogical and scientific activity V.B. Shadlinski passed the way from a senior laboratory assistant to a professor and head of the department. This way was not easy. He determined the macromicroscopic anatomy, regularities of individual and age features of nerves of the human masticatory apparatus in prenatal and postnatal ontogenesis. Prof. V.B. Shadlinski has convincingly proved that masticatory muscles and their activity are regulated by structures of the peripheral nervous system of complex structure. Six variants of branching of the infraorbital and inferior alveolar nerves were revealed by V.B.Shadlinski for the first time. According to V.B.Shadlinski the location of the infraorbital foramen depends on the peculiarities of the structure of the upper jaw. As a result of the investigations, additional infraorbital foramina were showed for the first time. Through these foramina the branches of the infraorbital nerve exit to the facial surface.

In 1999 he defended his doctoral dissertation and was awarded the scientific degree of doctor of medical sciences. Considering the great importance for the Republic of Azerbaijan of the prevalence of thyroid pathologies, Professor V.B. Shadlinski began studying the morphofunctional properties of this gland. The result of the research was a brilliantly defended doctoral dissertation in 1999 on the topic “Structural homeostasis and morphofunctional characteristics of the thyroid gland under conditions of normal goitrogenic influence” and a monograph “Structural organization and morphofunctional characteristics of the thyroid gland under normal and goitrogenic influence”, published in Russian in Russian Federation and has gained the approval of many morphologists.

Under his scientific guidance 14 scientists were awarded the scientific degree of doctor of philosophy in medicine.

6 scientists with whom he was a scientific advisor were awarded the scientific degree of doctor of medical sciences.

He is the author of more than 700 scientific articles and theses, more than 20 monographs, about 50 textbooks, "Atlas of Human Anatomy", "Anatomical Terminology" in Azerbaijani, Russian, English and Latin languages.

He has been a member of the New Azerbaijan Party since 09/04/1993.

In 1994-2001, he was the chairman of the first party organization of the New Azerbaijan Party in the Nasimi district of Azerbaijan Medical University and a member of the Nasimi district board.

Since 2008, he has been a member of the Turkic World Studies International Academy of Sciences.

Since 2009, he is a full member of the European Academy of Natural Sciences.

V.B.Shadlinski is an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2014.

Since 2018, he is the chairman of the Public Association «Scientific Society of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists».

Since 2019, he is the founder and editor-in-chief of "Journal of Theoretical, Clinical and Experimental Morphology".

V.B.Shadlinski is the deputy editor-in-chief of the international "Neurology" journal, a member of the Editorial Board of the International "Journal of Neuroendocrinological Research", the "Azerbaijan Medical Journal" of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the "Education" journal of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the "Health" journal of the Azerbaijan Medical University. Since 2021, he has been the chairman of the Council of Elders of Nasimi District, Baku.

In 2000 V.B.Shadlinski was given the honorary title of "Honored Doctor of the Republic of Azerbaijan" by the decree of The National Leader of the Azerbaijani Nation Heydar Aliyev.

In 2009 he was awarded the gold medal of the Turkic World Studies International Academy of Sciences.

In 2009 V.B.Shadlinski was awarded the "Albert Schweitzer" Silver Medal by the Presidium of the European Academy of Natural Sciences.

In 2010 V.B.Shadlinski was awarded the European Honorary Scientist diploma and the "Robert Koch" medal by the Presidium of the European Scientific Societies for his invaluable contribution to the field of science.

In 2010 V.B.Shadlinski was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Scientist" by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

In 2020 V.B.Shadlinski was awarded the Shohrat Order by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

In 2022 V.B.Shadlinski was awarded the Presidential individual scholarship by order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
